Safety and the Law

Health Safety and the Law provides a solid overview of health and safety in the workplace and the legal obligations that accompany each respective area. This course provides a general overview but should further examination into an area be required, please refer to either “Safety Basics” or “Technical” categories for more detailed training. Customized sessions can also be developed to communicate a company’s specific health and safety requirements.
This course will enable participants to:
- Understand the basic structure and legal terminology
of the pertinent
Occupational Health and Safety Act - Understand the Internal Responsibility System
- Define "due diligence" and identify the three key factors that support it: knowledge, action and documentation
- Understand the types of enforcement, penalties and offences for violations under the Act and Bill C-45 and define duties and responsibilities under the Act for: employers, supervisors, workers and Joint Health and Safety Committees (including certified members)
- Describe the basic rights of workers
- Understand the Work Refusal and Work Stoppage Processes
