WHMIS (GHS) Introduction

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is in place to govern the safe use, storage, handling and disposal of hazardous products within Canadian workplaces. 

This online course is designed to provide workers with an overview of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, as well as specific requirements of WHMIS 2015.  

During the WHMIS 2015 transition period, our WHMIS (GHS) Introduction also offers an additional chapter on specific requirements of WHMIS 1988. This content will be optional based on a Knowledge Check at the beginning of the chapter.

After completing the course, participants should be familiar with the following:

  • An overview of WHMIS
  • WHMIS-related legislation and regulations
  • The roles and responsibilities of the supplier, employer and employee
  • WHMIS and workers’ rights
  • Types of hazards, routes of entry and control measures
  • Hazardous product classifications and symbols
  • Safety data sheet and labelling requirements
  • Additional information, such as exemptions
